Key of F
I can't show my face, can't go any place, people stop&stare. It's so hard to bear
Every time we meet, my heart skips a beat, we don't stop to speak, 'though it's just a week,
Everybody' knows you left........ me,........... It's the talk of the town.
It's the talk of the town We
sent our invitations to friends and relations, announcing our wed ding day Our
friends and relations gave congratulations........*How can you face them, what can you say?
Let's make up sweetheart, let's not stay apart, don't let foolishpride, keep you from my side
How can love like ours be end........ed? It's the talk of the town....
Repeat - (Instrumental interlude and pick up song at * to end)
Written by Jerry Livingstone in 1933, this song reached its highest acclaim when it was recorded by Jerry Gray and the Casa Loma Orchestra. Connee Boswell's rendition of it is my favorite. She had a marvellous 'feel' for sad songs. She was around in the 20's-30's and 40's.You can hear her on You tube at:

Born Jerry Levenson in Denver, Colorado in 1909, Jerry Livingstone graduated from Arizona University to become a busy band pianist, song writer and arranger. His songs included Mairzy Doats and Dozy Dotes; Ashby De La Zooch and many others. He wrote for Walt Disney Pictures and themes for popular TV shows eg 77 Sunset Strip; Casper the Friendly Ghost. He wrote 'Blue and Sentimental' for Count Basie and wrote for the Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis comedy team in its early days. He died in 1987 of a heart attack.
I think this arrangement is a good starting point for anyone who wants to try playing Jazz on the Uke. There are few troublesome stretches for the left hand and the tempo may be quite slow. The chord progressions are quite delightful too.
The melody is pretty well contained within the chords.
